Good stuff! Always an interesting read. I found the section over the rise and triumph of the modern self insightful. While I agree that the left is attempting to destroy all normative sex and sexuality, what are the conservatives really conserving at this point? I mean, this fiasco with Dave rubin being a practicing homo using surrogates to bring children into this world then raise them in a homosexual home, is something the "left' would have shuttered at 20 years ago. However, we now have "conservatives' applauding this. Your thoughts on all this? It seems every faction and institution has moved to the left.
I think you nailed the issue with your final sentence, "It seems every faction and institution has moved to the left." The left has pretty much won the cultural battle over sexuality. The far left has pushed the Enlightenment philosophy to its logical end. "Conservatives" are much farther to the left today, especially on social issues, than was previously considered reasonable for anyone. But, this is what happens when you have secular conservativism. If all someone is conserving is the way things used to be, some vague idea of the Western tradition, or even their personal preference there's no reason for them to stand their ground when things get really tough. There are many who will fight for freedom but, if that's all, they won't really fight for certain important social issues (i.e. abortion, pornography, etc.) as long as the government leaves them alone. If we're being honest, what secularist doesn't want to be able to justify feeding their fleshly appetites? In my experience, secular conservatives just want to be left alone to do what they'd like, how they'd like. They dislike the left's ideas because they keep interfering with other people's lives, not because of moral convictions. Whereas, someone who is a Christian will be called conservative in our culture but we don't really care whether we're called conservative or progressive, but we care about being biblically faithful. This is already too long of a response but I hope that clarifies it a little.
